James Caruso
Second-generation Long Island carpenter. Spent 12 years installing for the region's top door distributor before opening Long Island Door Co. in 2011. Holds both Therma-Tru and Andersen installer certifications.

Background
Not a franchise. Not a marketing company that subs out the work. One guy who has been doing this his whole life.

How the company started
October 2012. Sandy tears through the South Shore. James is working for someone else at the time, doing framing and doors on new construction in Nassau County. After the storm, he drives through Long Beach, Island Park, Freeport. Every other house has doors ripped off. Fiberglass peeling like wet paper.
The FEMA money starts flowing. National companies roll in from out of state. They do not know Long Island. They do not know the building codes, the setbacks, the salt air. They do not know which inspector covers Hempstead versus Baldwin. They send crews that have never seen nor’easter wind loads.
James starts the company in January 2013 with two guys and a trailer. First jobs are Sandy rebuilds on the South Shore. The pitch is simple: local crew, local knowledge, we show up when we say we will. By 2014 the rebuilds turn into resides. By 2017 it is word of mouth across most of Nassau. By 2023, the crew is twelve people and 420 homes done.
The company still runs the same way it did in 2013. James still does walk-throughs. Ryan writes the quotes. Linda handles the permits and scheduling. The installers are full-time employees, not day labor. And one day. one crew. one beautiful door.
